Further along the south coast it is a shallow sheltered bay which opens out down to the wrecks at Xatt L'Ahmar.  A cave, large boulders bordered with Poseidon seagrass is a great back drop for numerous sea life.

Long Snouted Seahorse
XATT L'AHMAR REEF

This great diving reef runs along the coastline, next to Red Bay, from around 4m to 26m depth.

A vast variety of sea life can be seen in the small crevices, around the rocky seascape and in the open sea. There are large Morays, Groupers, Amber Jacks, Octopus, Cuttlefish, the occasional Ray, many large shoals of fish and, with luck, some Seahorses.

HEPHAESTUS

The Hephaestus is a Greek tanker that ran agound on Malta, it was savalaged cleaned and scuttled at Xatt L'Ahmar on Gozo as the newest diving attraction in August 2022.

It is 34m to top of bow, 38m to the deck at the middle, 36m to top of wheelhouse and 38m to top at the stern. The wreck sits slightly bow higher on the sand, sloping down to the stern.

It is only about a 16 minute swim across the shallow reef before the drop-off down to the bow of the wreck.

MV KARWELA

The MV Karwela was a passenger ferry that was deliberately sunk as a diving attraction at Xatt L'Ahmar and boasts a very photogenic staircase. The wreck  sits on a sandy bottom with depths from 20m at top wheelhouse to 40m at the sea bed.  A comfortable dive around 35m should allow you to see everything

MV COMINOLAND

The MV Cominoland was a passenger ferry that was sunk as a diving attraction at Xatt L'Ahmar.   The wreck  sits on a sandy bottom with depths from 20m at top wheelhouse to 40m at the sea bed.  A comfortable dive around 35m should allow you to see everything

Xlendi ferry prop
MV XLENDI

The MV Xlendi was a roll on roll off car ferry, sunk as a diving attraction at Xatt L'Ahmar, it lies at a depth 35 to 45m near the MV Karwela.  The first of the three vessels to be sunk, it unexpectedly flipped over and settled onto the sandy seabed upside down. This ferry is not dived as much as the other two as penetration is not allowed.

Yellowtail Amberjack
RAZ IL'HOBZ

An area on the south coast, the centre of this dive is the Middle Finger, a pinnacle which rises from the depths to around 15m at its peak.   Covered with marine life, a keen-eyed underwater photographer can capture colourful shots of tiny Nudibranchs, whilst videographers can take footage of the fiercely fast Barracudas and Amber Jacks after their prey.

Common Cuttle fish
MGARR IX XINI

This picturesque bay on the south coast is one of the easiest dives on the island only going to around 15 m max.  However, it hosts a huge variety of sea life such as Flying Gurnards, Cuttlefish, Octopus, Morays, Seahorses, Rays and so much more.  It also has two caves that are very safe and harbour the likes of Hermit crabs, Sea anemones, Spiral tube worms, Star fish and there are incredibly colourful soft coral walls.

TA' CENC

Ta' Cenc dive site is located at the bottom of the cliffs of the same name and allows for some deeper diving and an alternative route to the caves in Mgarr Ix-Xini bay.

Xlendi Bay
XLENDI BAY

This is a very popular spot on the west coast for holiday makers and divers alike.  The popular dive here boasts a lovely tunnel swim through the headland, which is 'not' an overhead environment. A different route back to the shore can be taken around a large pinnacle where often large schools of juvenile Barracuda are seen.

Blue Hole
THE BLUE HOLE

The Blue Hole is in Dwejra on the west coast.  It is one of the most popular sites on Gozo despite losing its’ other half, the Azure Window. The dive provides various attractions, the arch part of the Hole can make for a stunning photograph as the sunlight beams down through it.

Azure Window debris field Gozo zo
AZURE DEBRIS FIELD

The Azure Window was an ancient natural rock formation of a huge arch, as seen on our front page.  Due to a powerful storm it collapsed in March 2017 and was lost to the sea.  It did, however, transform the area underwater into an aquatic mountain range, with an ethereal atmosphere, swim throughs and opportunities for great photos.

Inland Sea
INLAND SEA

The inland sea next to the Blue Hole, is fed via an 80m long tunnel through the rock coastline.  The tunnel is narrow, it starts at a depth of 4m and drops down to 26m.  The sea walls and sea bed, outside the exit, are in the open sea where the fish are often large and huge shoals can be seen. The dive can continue to the Blue Hole if all the weather and other factors allow.

Fried egg jelly fish
CORAL GARDENS

Coral Gardens is situated adjacent to the Blue Hole, it is a labyrinth of gullies that filter through to a drop off and wall dive.  Larger Groupers and Seabream can sometimes be found in the depths.

Coral Cave
CORAL CAVE

This is just an easy drop down from the Coral Gardens and is at about 26m.  It is a large cave with lots of temperate corals growing inside.

Rodgers cave
RODGERS CAVE

Yet another nice cave in the area not far from Coral cave.  It can be accessed in different ways.  Either through the Coral Gardens or a short hike over the rocky area towards Crocodile rock.

The Chimney Dewjra Gozo
THE CHIMNEY

This natural formation near to the Blue Hole is a fun way to end the dive.  There is a small swim through at its base around 23m, then it continues up through the Chimney starting at around 15m.  Divers need to ascend in single file to the exit at the Coral Gardens.

Cathedral cave Gozo, Malta
CATHEDRAL CAVE

Situated on the north coast this impressive cave has natural ventilation which allows you to remove your regulator. Sunlight streams through the crack in the cave wall and turns the water a neon blue over the submerged entrance.  It also has very good acoustics if you fancy singing a song.

WHEAT CAVE

Wheat cave is on the north coast  and is located at the entry point for Cathedral cave.  It is not an overhead environment, but does give good opportunities for some great pictures.

TA LENK

Ta Lenk dive site is accessed from the same entry point as the  Cathedral cave.  Although a deep dive of 30m+ we normally get to see some of the larger groupers chilling out in the depths.

Occasionally, in season, we maybe blessed with a visit by the Mola mola.

Congar Eel
BILLINGSHURST CAVE

Billingshurst cave is on the north coast  and is probably the largest cave on Gozo.  It has a large coarl covered entrance which leads through into a large chamber within the cave.

Cleaner Shrimp
SHRIMP CAVE

Shrimp cave is between Reqqa Point and Billingshurst cave on the north coast.  The entrance is down at around 30m and divers swim inside about 5m before ascending vertically another 5m up a circular shaft.  At the top of the shaft there are normally hundreds of Shrimp running around the walls.  This dive is for a limited number of divers due to the confined area within the cave.

Moray eel (Muraena helena)
REQQA POINT

This very scenic dive on the north coast can often surprise its regular visitors with a variety of huge shoals of fish and very large Groupers and Moray eels.

Cuttle fish
XWEJNI BAY

Situated on the north coast this has easy shore access and its limited depth enables visitors to enjoy very long dives over the labyrinth of gullies.

Submarine cave
SUBMARINE CAVE

Submarine cave is between Double Arch and Triple Arch on the north coast.  Despite being called this it does not relate to a submarine nor is it as large.

Triple Arch Gozo Malta
TRIPLE ARCH

Triple Arch is reached through Xwejni bay on the north coast.  Found at the edge of a drop off, it is quite obvious to see that it was once a cave, which has collapsed in on itself.
